A pocket watch exists with the following engraving:

Only two of his great grandfathers have been identified:
Rev. Charles Boileau Elliott (1803-1875) who died to early, and John Samuel Lister, father of
Hannah Frances Lister (b.1843). Who gave Charles the watch?

The stone carries the crest of the
Somerset Light Infantry 13th Regiment of Foot (which was garrisoned at the "
Jellalabad Barracks" in Taunton). The inscription reads:
"
SECOND LIEUTENANT C. A. B. ELLIOTT, SOMERSET LIGHT INFANTRY, 12TH APRIL 1917, AGE 24.
TRANSLATED FROM THE WARFARE OF THE WORLD INTO THE PEACE OF GOD."
Memorial
In
St. Mary's Church, Tattingstone (where his
great grandfather had been vicar), there is a memorial to Charles, reading:
"He died the Noblest death a man may die,
Fighting for God & Right & Liberty
And such a death is Immortality." [From
